Privacy Policy for Llanai

Last Updated: October 6, 2026

1. INTRODUCTION

We are The Auspicious Company, doing business as Auspicious and Llanai ("Company," "we," "us," "our"), a company registered in Massachusetts, United States.

We operate the website https://www.llanai.com (the "Site"), the mobile application Llanai (the "App"), as well as any other related products and services that refer or link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the "Services").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Services. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Services.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect information that you provide directly to us, including:

  • Account information (name, email address, password)
  • Profile information (language preferences, learning goals)
  • Content you create (writing samples, language exercises)
  • Payment information (when you subscribe to premium features)
  • Communications with us

We also collect certain information automatically when you use our Services, including:

  • Usage data (interactions, features used, time spent)
  • Device information (IP address, browser type, operating system)
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies
  • Conversion tracking data (signup events, onboarding progress, subscription activity)

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Services
  • Personalize your language learning experience
  • Process transactions and manage your account
  • Communicate with you about our Services
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns and trends
  • Protect against, identify, and prevent fraud and other illegal activity
  • Comply with our legal obligations

4. ANALYTICS AND TRACKING

We use third-party analytics services to understand how our Services are used and to improve the user experience. Specifically, we use DataFast for conversion tracking to analyze user journeys from signup to subscription.

This tracking includes:

  • Account creation and onboarding completion events
  • First journal entry and user engagement milestones
  • Payment and subscription conversion events
  • Attribution data linking marketing sources to conversions

Your Control: You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time through our cookie consent banner or by contacting us. Opting out will not affect your ability to use our Services, but may limit our ability to provide personalized experiences.

5. AI PROCESSING

Llanai uses AI models to correct and respond to your writing. To do that, we send the following to AI providers:

  • Your journal entries and practice sentences, to correct them, add furigana, count words as you type, and write review questions from the corrections
  • Photos of handwriting you upload, to turn them into text
  • Your answers during account setup (first name, native language, Japanese level) and the goals you type, to set up your profile and suggest writing prompts. Prompts can also use short examples of mistakes from your past entries.
  • Sentences you type into the practice exercise on our homepage, even if you have no account

Who receives it: Most of it goes to OpenRouter, a service that passes each request to the company that runs the model. Today that company is Google, for its Gemini models. Review questions and account setup go to Groq, which runs an open model called gpt-oss-120b.

What they may do with it: Under their terms, none of these companies may use what we send to train AI models. OpenRouter does not keep it. Google and Groq may keep it for a limited time to detect abuse and fix errors. We do not send your email address or payment details.

6. DATA SHARING

We may share your information with third parties in certain circumstances, including:

  • Service providers who perform services on our behalf (including analytics providers like DataFast, and the AI providers in section 5)
  • Business partners with whom we jointly offer products or services
  • In connection with a business transaction (e.g., merger or acquisition)
  • When required by law or to protect our rights

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

Journal entries you make public: Your journal entries are private unless you choose "Make Public" on an entry and confirm. A public entry can be read by anyone who has its link. We ask search engines not to list it. It shows what you wrote, its corrections and the date. It does not show your name, email or photo. Choosing "Make Private" or deleting the entry takes the page down straight away.

7. DATA RETENTION

We store the information we collect about you for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which we originally collected it, or for other legitimate business purposes, including to meet our legal, regulatory, or other compliance obligations.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Services are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.

9. UPDATES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Services prior to the change becoming effective. Your continued use of our Services after any changes indicates your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.
